Art in the Square’s 2024 Featured Artists

By Scott Nishimura

Each year, Southlake’s Art in the Square features several artists and chooses the artwork of one for the logo of that year’s festival. Here are the year’s logo and featured artists for the 2024 festival, April 26-28 at Southlake Town Square.

FEATURED ARTISTS

Bethany Klein

Fort Worth

Bethany Klein has had a passion for art since childhood. Her interests in animals and nature help drive her art as it’s moved from realism to surrealism.

Erin Hanson

McMinnville, Oregon

Erin Hanson began painting when she was 8. When she was a teenager, she was an apprentice at a mural studio where she painted 40-foot-tall works on canvas and sold art commissions. After getting a degree in bioengineering from the University of California at Berkeley, she became a rock climber at Red Rock Canyon, Nevada, where, inspired by the colorful scenery, she returned to painting and resolved to create one painting every week for the rest of her life.

Thomas LeGault

Plymouth, Michigan

Thomas LeGault started painting at 13 and received his formal training at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit. Over nearly 50 years, LeGault has exhibited in galleries, museum shows and art tours. He’s known for his use of color and mirror reflective imaging. He estimates he has paintings hanging in thousands of private collections worldwide.

Lisa Kattenbraken

Olympia, Washington

Primarily self-taught, Kattenbraken has worked with batik — the application of wax and dye to fabric, creating patterns — for more than 30 years. Her mother quilted, sewed, upholstered, and crocheted. Her father was a self-taught portrait artist.

Sam Jones IV

Flippin, Arkansas

Sam Jones works mostly in mixed-media, using wood, metal leaf, wax pencils and resin to create multidimensional engravings and drawings. Jones studied art at Sam Houston State University, University of Houston, Glassell Studio School and life drawing at the Austin Visual Arts Association.
